Chronic pain can negatively impact every aspect of your life. Simple daily tasks can become difficult – or even impossible. You feel both physically and emotionally drained. Pain can cause you to become less active, anxious, even depressed.
To complicate the matter, traditional treatment methods, such as pain medication or surgery, don’t always resolve the issue and – sometimes – can even make it worse.
Many patients come into our office with pain issues such as headaches, TMJ pain, knee pain or chronic back pain.
At Pathways to Healing, our aim is to develop a pain resolution strategy that addresses the source of the problem and alleviates it. In order to do this, we first address a patient’s structural and muscular restrictions through a proven combination applied kinesiology and chiropractic care.
Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a method that evaluates overall health by utilizing precise muscle strength tests to communicate with the body and determine how a person’s body is functioning. By testing individual muscles, our doctors gain valuable insight into a patient’s structural, nutritional and even emotional (neurological) health. Muscle testing plays a critical role in helping to diagnose and address the core problem, rather than just treating the symptoms.
Once our doctors determine what the body needs through muscle testing, they can pursue a variety of approaches to begin addressing the core problem. The first step is typically chiropractic care.
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care is rooted in the belief that good health is based, in part, on a normally functioning nervous system. The spinal column houses the spinal cord — from which every nerve in the body emanates. Abnormal pressure or irritation on spinal nerves creates a type of “nerve interference” that results in pain, inflammation and restricted mobility. When this pressure is relieved, the body’s proper flow of nerve energy is restored. Pain and inflammation are alleviated, the body tissue is allowed to heal, and mobility and health return.
Pathways to Healing is the only practice in the area that utilizes instrument adjustments to realign the spine and restore joint mobility. By using an instrument called an arthrostim, our doctors are able to realign the spine in a gentle, precise manner that yields results without “cracking,” “popping,” pain or discomfort.
In addition to chiropractic care, our doctors may also incorporate any of the following as part of a customized pain resolution program:
· Specific joint mobilization
· Acupressure
· Muscle and soft tissue work
· Balancing acupuncture and meridian systems
· Nutritional supplementation
· Dietary and lifestyle counseling
· Cold laser therapy
· Evaluating the impact emotions are having on the body
